Siri is not going to be your AI friend

Our initial testing has already shown this Siri AI knows when to shut upand that’s mostly by design. In an interview with Very HumanApple’s Craig Federighi said the new Siri won’t do all the disjointed chatbots developed by OpenAI, Google, and others.

“As you know, if you use most of the chatbots out there, they’re very focused on dating,” said Federighi, who heads software at Apple. They want to draw you in. They can encourage you to open up about yourself, and then use it as a basis for communication.

Apple deliberately took a different approach with its AI chatbot. “We see things differently,” Federighi said. “I mean, the way we designed Siri, Siri wants to say, ‘Listen, that’s not what I’m here for, right?
