Video with intervention by Egypt.. South Korea – Czech Republic match summary and goals

In the first round of Group A of the 2026 World Cup, the South Korean national team won 2-1 against the Czech Republic.

With this victory, the Korean national team earned its first 3 points in Group A, where Mexico beat AAU 2:0 in the opening match as well.

The first half saw a relative advantage for the Korean team, who created more than one dangerous chance, but goalkeeper Matei Kovar excelled, stopping efforts from Son Heung-min, Kang In Lee and Hwang In-beom. Son also wasted a valuable opportunity, ending the first half in a goalless draw.

In the 59th minute, the Czech team surprised the opposition with a goal through Ladislav Krejci, who took advantage of Vladimir Soval’s amazing throw in the penalty area and rose above everyone to head the ball into the net.

Despite the delay, the Korean side continued to press in search of a comeback and Hwang In-beom was able to equalize in the 67th minute after he received the ball in the penalty area and fired a superb technical touch past the advancing goalkeeper Kovar.

The excitement came to a head in the final minutes when Tomas Soucek scored with a powerful header for the Czechs in the 77th minute, but Egyptian referee Amin Omar stopped the celebrations by going back to the video technology, which revealed an offside incident in the attack, so the goal was disallowed.

The Czechs did not recover from the shock of the referee’s decision as the Koreans quickly seized the momentum and Hwang In-beom produced a perfect pass in the 80th minute which substitute Oh Hyun-gyu met with a direct shot into the net for the lead goal that gave his country the three points.

The Czech Republic tried to mount a comeback in the remaining minutes, with Adam Hlosek and then Michal Sadilek almost equalizing, but goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu’s brilliance got in the way, so Amin Omar blew the final whistle to seal a 2-1 win for South Korea.
