A group of lawmakers has called on the Trump administration to help evacuate people from Gaza because of the lack of jobs.

More than 60 members of the United States Congress have called on Israel to lift sanctions on Palestine cancer patients in Gaza to receive treatment in hospitals in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Sixty members of the House of Representatives and 11 members of the Senate signed Thursday’s letter, addressed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They include Senators Bernie Sanders and Chris Van Hollen and Representatives Madeleine Dean and Greg Casar.

The letter calls on President Donald Trump’s administration to support the medical evacuation of pediatric cancer patients and their caregivers, and to receive assurances from Israel that they will do so. allowed to return in Gaza.
“There is absolutely no reason why allowing children with cancer to drive 40 minutes to receive life-saving medical treatment should be controversial,” said Deyar Jamil, a fellow at the human rights group DAWN, which helped write the letter.
“Such violence would not be possible without political cover in the US and we thank the members of Congress who want to end it.”
A reduced health plan
The United Nations estimates that about 11,000 cancer patients live in Gaza, where Israel is suffering. systematic destruction the health system has left them unable to access it adequate support.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 94 percent of Gaza’s hospitals were damaged or destroyed during Israel’s genocidal war on the Palestinian territories, which began in October 2023.

“A diagnosis of cancer is a death sentence in Gaza, where doctors estimate that cancer deaths will triple by October 2023,” Thursday’s letter read.
It states that the minimum medical withdrawals allowed by the Israeli authorities have fallen far short of the needs of the patients.
According to the United Nations, at least 1,200 people have died in Gaza while waiting for permission to leave, including a six-year-old boy with leukemia named Ghazal, who spent the last two months of his life waiting for permission to leave.
The WHO suspended medical evacuations from Gaza to Egypt in April after the Israeli military shot and killed medical professional.
Despite the cease-fire agreement that began in October 2025, the Israeli military has continued strike crossing Gaza and blocking the flow of humanitarian aid.
Throughout the war, the Israeli army has faced accusations of deliberately targeting medical workers and systematically destroying hospitals across Gaza.
Even before the war, Israel maintained strict control over who was allowed in and out of Gaza. As of October 2023, the country has largely rejected requests to relocate to the hospital, citing “security concerns”.
Thursday’s letter calls for the establishment of a medical corridor to allow essential travel from Gaza, connecting the line to the rest of the Palestinian territories.
It says that hospitals in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are ready to receive patients from Gaza and provide treatment such as radiation therapy, with the Augusta Victoria Hospital and the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem providing funds for all necessary expenses.
The letter also calls for the Palestinians to be able to rebuild Gaza’s hospitals without further destruction. But it emphasizes the need to remove cancer patients immediately to ensure they receive life-saving treatment.
“The only obstacle between these patients and the treatment they desperately need is the Israeli government’s acceptance of their requests to relocate,” the letter said.
