Smart weather monitoring device vendor AcuRite has delayed plans to force users to use a new app. The switch from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW, which AcuRite launched on May 30, “has raised serious questions and concerns among long-time users,” Jeff Bovee, AcuRite’s VP of product development, told Ars Technica.
AcuRite, whose products include weather stations, rain gauges, and indoor thermometers, told customers to do just that. Close My AcuRite at the end of May. Device owners should use AcuRite NOW, an iOS and Android app launched in June 2025, to manage their devices instead.
Some long-time users complained about being forced to use a new app when the existing app performed just as well, if not better, than the new app. When Ars first report at AcuRite in May, AcuRite NOW had some of the features of My AcuRite, including the ability to specify multiple temperature sensors, countless temperature reports, and an online dashboard option. Users have also highlighted the difficulty of uploading data to the weather station and the poor navigation experience with damaged areas.
Speaking to Ars this week, AcuRite’s Bovee confirmed the My AcuRite delay. Before shutting down the program, AcuRite is trying to improve “AcuRite NOW account setup, device onboarding, station connectivity, data transparency, app usage, notifications, and overall reliability of connected content,” he said.
Bovee also said that “many customers” reported the “shortcomings” of AcuRite NOW compared to “My AcuRite”.
Bovee previously told Ars that switching from My AcuRite to AcuRite NOW was necessary. My AcuRite was “primarily a weather cloud dashboard,” and AcuRite NOW is meant to “be a comprehensive, connected-device platform,” he said last month. The new app supports many devices, including third-party smart devices and Tuya SmartLife IoT ecosystem.
