The newspaper added that the club and player aim to close the deal before the start of Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo next Wednesday.

Bernardo had two more offers from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but “the quick and decisive move by the white club was decisive for the player’s current inclination towards the Santiago Bernabeu”, writes the Madrid newspaper.

Marca also noted that the Portuguese star “wants to be close to his homeland after 9 years in the English Premier League and Madrid is a perfect fit for him”.

In the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Silva will play in Group 11, which also includes Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uzbekistan.
