Real Madrid: Jose Mourinho reappointed as head coach on three-year contract

Real Madrid have confirmed the appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach.

The 63-year-old coach has agreed a three-year contract and will start work when the club return to pre-season on July 13.

Real Madrid paid £13m (€15m) to bring the Portuguese head coach back to the Bernabeu – a decade after his first spell at the club.

Florentino Perez had promised to appoint Mourinho as head coach if he was elected club president earlier this month.

Perez, 79, who has been in office since 2009 Enrique Riquelme won the challenge and renewable energy magnet By picking up 65% of the votes in the election.

This is Mourinho’s second time in charge of Real Madrid, having won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in a three-year spell that began in 2010.

Mourinho has managed Premier League clubs Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, and in recent years has had spells at Roma, Fenerbahce and Benefica.

In his one and only season at Benfica, Mourinho guided the two-time European Cup winners to an unbeaten Liga Portugal campaign, although it was good enough to finish third.

Earlier this week, Benfica agreed to appoint former Fulham manager Marco Silva as Mourinho’s replacement.

Mourinho, on the other hand, will return to Real Madrid after the club failed to win the trophy in the last two seasons.
