The Iraqi star challenges. Mbappe and the French stars are people like us

Iraq star Amir Al-Amari has raised the challenge flag ahead of the start of the Mesopotamian Lions’ journey to the 2026 World Cup finals.

The Iraq national team, which is coached by Australian Graham Arnold, is in a difficult group, which includes France, Norway and Senegal.

The Iraqi national team begins their journey by facing Norway before taking on the French Roosters in the second round, ending the group stage with a heavy defeat against the Lions of Teranga.

In an interview with FIFA’s website, Al-Amari showed his excitement at facing top-class stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Mikel Olissi and Sadio Mane.

“Playing against big stars like Kylian Mbappe doesn’t scare us, but rather gives us an extra boost.”

He continued. “It’s natural that everyone raises their technical level and doubles their physical pace when they’re up against the best.”

“But, in the end, they are people like us, and football knows no names. Inside the green rectangle, the confrontation will be 11 players against 11 players.”

He concluded. “We have to enjoy this moment and be free from pressure, while raising the flag of fierce competition inside the stadium from the first minute to the final whistle.”
