World Cup 2026: Who has played the most minutes in the tournament?

France will have to fight the heat and fatigue if they want to win the World Cup for the third time.

Didier Deschamps’ squad has been more active than any leading nation, totaling 1,341 matches and 98,895 minutes.

Crystal Palace central defender Maxence Lacroix has the most starts (58) and minutes (5,009) of any France player, but the 26-year-old is only expected to make Les Bleus’ squad.

Bayern Munich forward Michael Olisse (65), coincidentally a former Palace player, has made the most appearances but is second in minutes played (4,942) coming off the bench 12 times.

Ollis is one of 11 players from France who took part in the Club World Cup. Portugal also had 11 with only Germany, on 12, having more action in the US last summer.

With 1,299 matches and 96,405 minutes we find Portugal second in the top 10 squads.

Roberto Martinez’s squad could be closer to the top if Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot see more cup action with Manchester United. The Red Devils failed to qualify for Europe and played just one match in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha played the most matches (66) to reach the Club World Cup final and win the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo started 44 matches for Al Nasr and Portugal.

England are third, with Thomas Tuchel’s men having played more games (1,304) than Portugal but starting fewer (1,051 to 1,092).

The workload on Harry Kane could be a cause for concern with the captain – who turns 33 next month – making 63 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Morgan Rodgers has the most caps for Aston Villa and England with 64 times spanning 5,037 minutes.

England have the most players (seven) to make 50 or more starts, followed by Belgium, Germany and Portugal (six).

For Germany, Bayern centre-back Jonathan Tah has played the most minutes (4,923) in Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
