Being away office means working on my laptop—and that brings productivity and forgetfulness. The problem, for me at least, is the veil, or rather, the lack of it. A portable monitor solves this problem in an interesting way, it works like external monitoring setup he does it in the office, but it’s walking and in the mind. While large portable monitors (especially multi-level ones) may require a dedicated power connection, most can use your laptop’s USB port for all the power they need.
The portable control panel is huge, with all the name manufacturers of laptops and desktop monitors as well as many companies you’ve never heard of. For this shopping guide, I reviewed 20 portable monitors from various manufacturers that range in price from $70 to nearly $700. I am dividing my top ideas into four main categories, which are the most common runners.
If you’re just looking for one more screen to have next to your laptop and don’t need to touch, Arzopa’s Z3FC is the best choice for most users. This large 16.1-inch display only costs $136, but it’s packed with features. The resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels provides enough detail for any type of work whether it’s work or leisure time, and the screen offers an amazing refresh rate of 180 Hz. It has one of the sharpest displays available on all portable displays – and the highest color gamut, with 99% of the sRGB space measured in my tests. The color range is equally strong, with a 1.10 average accuracy rating.
The device is simple but effective, with a monitor controlled by a small arm that protrudes from the back of the display and connectivity options that include mini-HDMI and two USB-C ports. Because it only draws 13 watts, you don’t need an external power adapter if you connect via USB to your laptop. (Note that since the HDMI connections are not powered, you’ll need to use one of the USB ports to connect to a power source if you choose that option.) The second USB port can be used to charge a phone or connect other USB devices, and the monitor includes two 2-watt speakers that, while not practical, are better than nothing.
Best of all is how portable the monitor is: At just 1.64 pounds, it’s one of the lightest monitors on the market, especially at this size.
