Boox has announced a new version of its smallest e-reader that expands the functionality of the Go 6 to include writing. The The new Go 6 (Gen II) it sticks with the 6-inch, 300PPI E Ink screen as standard but gets a bump from 2GB to 3GB of RAM and now supports Boox’s InkSense Plus pen, which can be used for drawing, writing notes, or handwriting.
The Boox Go 6 (Gen II) is now available to order for $199.99 and is expected to begin shipping on June 17. It’s $45.99 InkSense Plus pen not included, but you can bundle it with the e-reader for $232.99. It is more expensive than entry-level Amazon Kindle and Kobo Clara BW which also has a 6-inch display, but the new Go 6 gives you the best of both worlds. It runs Android 11 and supports the Google Play Store so you can install Amazon and Kobo mobile apps, giving you access to all ebook stores.
The new e-reader may not be as polished as you can get from other products like the $449 Remarkable Paper Pro Move, but with Android you can choose from a wide range of notepads and more options for how to connect notes across platforms.
Boox Go 6 (Gen II) is compatible with other features of Kindle and Kobo e-readers, including screen brightness and color temperature adjustment, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 1,500mAh battery that should last for several weeks – unless you try to turn the e-reader into a gaming device. But unlike its competitors, the Boox includes 32GB of storage with the possibility of further expansion using a microSD card.
