The US has accused the Mexican governor and other leaders of aiding drug cartels.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton said, “The indictment makes clear that the Sinaloa Cartel and other drug trafficking organizations like it cannot operate freely or effectively without corrupt politicians and law enforcement officials on their payroll.”
