David Harbor talked about his ex Lily Allen‘s tell-all album West End Girl for the first time in a new interview.
The Strange Things the actor, who is on his way to Emmys for the HBO crime drama DTF St Louis, separated from the singer in early 2025 after they married in 2020. The couple divorced a few months after their separation.
Allen’s acclaimed album deals with the end of a marriage, including infidelity and emotional turmoil, with the singer describing the songs as “a mixture of reality and fiction”. Alexis Petridis of the Guardian to be invited and “the unstoppable act of emancipation”.
“It was amazing,” Harbor said in an interview Miscellaneous. “I believe it’s an opportunity for every artist to use their talent to create art, so I respect him for doing that.”
He added: “I can’t say much because it’s my private life. Even though most people don’t allow me a private life – I appreciate it. And I also appreciate the lives of people I talk to privately. I can’t talk about that.”
When asked if he wanted to challenge what was said in the album, he said: “The story is very difficult and that’s why I say that I respect his artistic ability to express his experiences. It was not an experience for me.”
In an interview with VogueAllen said the album was a mix of fact and fiction.
“There are things recorded in the register that I experienced in my family, but that doesn’t mean it’s all good news,” he said. “It’s inspired by what happened in the relationship.”
Allen has followed the success of West End Girl with an accompanying concert tour. In two star reviewThe Guardian’s Claire Biddles hailed the album as “a testament to marital infidelity” but found the show disappointing.
The caller is in discussion creating a possible play inspired by music. “The ink never dries,” he said. But you know, I’m talking to people about it.
After the release of West End Girl, tabloid reports he encouraged that Harbour’s Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown filed a harassment and assault lawsuit against her. In a separate interview, Harbor called the moment “amazing” and denied any lingering rift between the two.
“You’re going to see a lot of me and Millie – 10 years wasn’t enough,” he said. “There’s a special friendship there. I love him. He loves me.” He added: “I don’t know if people have families and friends that you hang out with for 10 years – sometimes you have arguments, disagreements… It was just a simple thing and fixing that, once we get everyone out of the way and communicate, it’s okay.
Harbor will later be seen reprising his role as Santa Claus in the sequel Violent Night 2.
