Wolves: Wolves sack Rob Edwards after seven months at Molineux

Wolves Seven months after relegation from the Premier League, they sacked head coach Rob Edwards.

The club have previously joined forces to insist they are behind the 43-year-old coach, who was appointed last November.

Cesar Peixoto, who helped Gil Vicente finish sixth in the Portuguese Primera Liga last season, has been linked with the Molineux job.

Technical director Matt Jackson said last month that the club’s hierarchy had lined up to back Edwards as they look to rebuild the squad.

“The plan and the goal is to promote right away, but we understand that a lot of changes have to happen,” Jackson said.

“Without alignment here, we’re dead in the water before we even get started, so that conversation has been going on for months.”

Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira in the Championship promotion race with Middlesbrough, but won just five of his 30 games in all competitions and lost 16.

In a Q&A hosted by BBC World last month, Edwards said: “We’re collective and I certainly take responsibility for it, but it’s not the effort but the fact that we’re the worst team in the league. That’s the bottom line.

“I’m careful what I say because I have to work with the kids for the next two weeks, but we’re not good enough.

“That’s the situation we’re in. I know coming here in November, I’m probably sitting in front of a lot of angry people here. I wanted to come here, I wanted to try and help.”
