Official answer.. Al-Ahli dreams of the Asian Super Cup in the ruins of Al-Nasr.

Al Rakhi won the Elite title for the second season in a row

Saudi club Al-Ahly set their sights on a new dream of winning another championship on the ruins of their arch-rivals Al-Nasr.

Al-Ahly have won three titles in the last two seasons, including the Saudi Arabian Super Cup title and two AFC Champions League titles for the Elite, the latest of which came in April last year at the expense of Japan’s Machida Zelvia.

The Saudi Al-Riyadiya newspaper revealed a new championship that Al-Ahly dreams of winning, which is the Asian Super Cup.

“Al-Ahly” has inquired from the Asian Football Confederation about the possibility of holding the Asian Super Cup match with the Japanese “Gamba Osaka”, which won the 2nd Champions League title at the expense of “Al-Nasr”.

However, the AFC verbally rejected Al-Ahli’s request due to the lack of budget allocated to host the tournament in the upcoming period.

This was not the first time the AFC Super Cup had been mooted, with previous reports suggesting the continental confederation was considering hosting it after Al-Ahli also won the Elite title last season.

Notably, the Asian Super Cup tournament first started in 1995 before being discontinued after the 2002 draw, and Al Hilal is considered to have won the most with two wins, tied with South Korea’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings.
