How a knife attack sparked a night of violence

Chaos and mayhem broke out on the streets of Belfast after a knife attack on Monday night.

The victim, Stephen Ogilvy, lost his left eye in the attack, Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard. Attacker Hadi Alloed has been jailed for four weeks for attempted murder, threatening to kill an NHS radiographer and possessing a knife.

BBC News has released maps of some of the violent incidents in the city and Northern Ireland. Videos show masked people walking the streets, shops and houses being attacked and shields and buses being set on fire. Marilyn Thomas reports.
