Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has made a clear plan for Lamin Yamal’s participation in the 2026 World Cup after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The Barcelona star returned to training alongside Nico Williams and Victor Munoz at Spain’s camp in the US city of Chattanooga on Tuesday after missing the team’s trip to Puebla, Mexico for a friendly against Peru.
As reported by the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, there is optimism in the La Roja camp regarding the player’s preparation, but the technical staff is extremely cautious about his return, stressing not to endanger him despite his full recovery.
The newspaper reports that De La Fuente has decided to give Lamin Yamal his first appearance of the tournament against Cape Verde next Monday, in which he played just 15 to 20 minutes, with the aim of gradually restoring the structure of the game.
His minutes are expected to increase in the next match against Saudi Arabia on June 21, where he will play at least 30 minutes.
This program aims to prepare the player in the best possible way before the June 26 clash against Uruguay in Guadalajara, which could decide the first place in the group.
The newspaper noted that the same schedule can be applied to Nico Williams, and Victor Munoz is expected to play a secondary role during the tournament.
