MacOS 27 Golden Gate: New Features

One of the most interesting features is Custom Extensions, which allow you to extend Safari in natural language. Finally, the new version of Safari will use the Passwords app to automatically reset passwords for websites that appear to be unsafe to use.

Another interesting implementation of Apple Intelligence is within the Shortcuts app. The program was accepted some additional artificial intelligence last year, but this new change takes many things. Now you can use natural language to create a shorter, less manual way of linking software tasks together. Apple’s example was that you could write, “Every time I leave work, calculate the ETA, and send it to Pedro,” which would use Maps and Messages.

Other changes include using natural language to create events in the Calendar, which populates information with contacts or locations. Image Playground has also received a major update, which is now based on Google Gemini technology. Now it can process great photos, and it looks less than what it can do. Like other photo editing apps, Image Playground will have a daily limit, but paid iCloud+ subscriptions can buy you more photos.

Liquid Glass Transformation

Although AI is the focus of the update, Golden Gate is also a follow-up to last year’s macOS Tahoe. Liquid Glass represented a major change in the appearance of all user interfaces, and in MacOS Golden Gate, these UI elements are being refined. Answering unexplained complaints and cluttered menus, macOS now has a cluttered effect on display, which hides background content and makes foreground text easier to read. This can be customized in System Settings, allowing you to change the level of visibility using a slider.

Apple has also made some minor changes to the look and feel of macOS. The Tool bar now has the same menu, the sidebars expand to the edge of the window and the icons in the sidebars have color again. And perhaps my most requested part, each window has the same corner as the window control buttons.

Beyond displays, Apple says it has also improved responsiveness, such as memory usage, CPU usage, display, and software updates. One example on the Mac was that moving between Locations was now fluid, as was opening Mission Control.
