A radical restructuring after the departure of Guardiola
Manchester City are expected to undergo major changes to their squad this summer, with many players set to leave.
Reports suggest that Manchester City could drop 8 players in a radical restructuring of the squad following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
The departures of defender John Stones and midfielder Bernardo Silva have been confirmed, but The Athletic have revealed that eight more players will leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
Nathan Ake is likely to leave, while midfielder Nico Gonzalez could be surplus to requirements at City if the Sky Blues are successful in their bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson.
Also on the list is Mateo Kovacic, who has a year left on his contract after a lengthy absence due to an ankle injury that required surgery.
Doubts have also been raised over the future of his compatriot Josco Guardioli, with links to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. After suffering a broken leg in January, Guardiol returned five months after the end of the season, regaining fitness in time for the World Cup.
In another context, Tijani Reynders could leave AC Milan after just one season with interest from Atletico Madrid.
The future of Omar Marmoush is also uncertain, as is the future of Rico Luis.
Goalkeeper James Trafford is set to reassess his situation after the World Cup following his disappointment as he became Donnarumma’s replacement on his return last summer.
Another development linked to a possible exit is that Ruben Diaz’s name has been linked with Real Madrid, who have appointed Jose Mourinho as manager for the second time.

City need to replace their captain Silva and they have clearly made the England star and Forrest Anderson their top target. Forest rejected the initial offer, but Maresca’s side are expected to come back with an improved offer for Anderson, who is also wanted by Manchester United.
