Meta plans to use the data it shares with other businesses to personalize its AI solutions. In Tuesday’s blog postMeta explains that it already uses your non-platform activity, such as the games you play or the content you buy on other sites, to send you advertisements. But now it is increasing the number of likes on Facebook and Instagram.
For example, Meta says if you’ve recently purchased a tent online, you’ll be able to see camping-related videos in your Reels feed. “We are not collecting new content as part of this update,” the blog says. “This is using information that businesses already send us to improve your experience.”
Meta spokesman Emil Vazquez says Seaside that the company in the past used data that is happening in all of its programs, such as likes, views, and tracking, to match what you see. So does the company they started talking and its AI assistant to customize last year.
As part of these changes, Meta is including options that control a company’s access to platform information. To prevent Meta from using the information it shares with third parties to customize your settings, feeds, or AI solutions, you just need to turn off “Third party actions”.
Vazquez says the update is rolling out globally, but it doesn’t include parts of Europe, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya.
