World Cup 2026: Iran fan ticket allocation cancelled, says FFIRI

Iran’s football federation has announced that fan tickets for the World Cup group stage have been canceled just days before the start of the tournament.

The World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, begins on Thursday, with Iran taking on New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 – both in Los Angeles – before facing Egypt on June 26 in Seattle.

Iran’s governing body FIFA rules state that the federation participating in each World Cup receives 8% of tickets for each match to distribute to fans.

He added that he has started selling tickets but cannot give them to fans, some of whom have already made travel arrangements.

“Denying Iranian fans from receiving legitimate and official ticket allocations is against the spirit of international competitions and the principle of equality between participating countries,” FFIRI said in a statement.

“This development raises serious questions about the interference of non-sporting and political issues in the organization of the world’s biggest football event.”

FFIRI also asked FIFA to “respect the principles of impartiality, fairness and established rules”.
