Former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden is set to become the head coach of the Glasgow franchise of the European Twenty20 Premier League.
BBC Sport understands Hayden has signed a deal to coach Glasgow Cosmic for the inaugural tournament between August 26 and September 20.
Since retiring from the game in 2012, Hayden has divided his time between commentary work and coaching.
The 54-year-old’s most recent coaching stint was as the batting coach of Gujarat Titans in the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Hayden previously held a batting and mentoring role as part of Pakistan’s coaching staff from 2021 to 2022 World T20.
He played 103 Tests, 161 One Day Internationals and nine T20Is for Australia between 1993 and 2009 and scored 15,066 runs in all formats.
Hayden will be assisted at Cosmic by fellow Queenslander Matthew Mott, who coached England’s white-ball team between 2022 and 2024.
New Zealand opener Finn Allen, South African quick Lungi Ngidi and former England all-rounder Liam Livingstone have agreed contracts to play for Cosmic in the ETPL.
The ETPL is run in collaboration with the Cricket Boards of Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, with teams based out of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Glasgow Cosmic is backed by India-based entertainment business Mugafi Group, while former Australia captain Steve Waugh and India legend Rahul Dravid are among the investors in other ETPL franchises.
Bollywood actor and film producer Abhishek Bachchan is a part-owner of the league along with Rules Sport Tech, a private Indian company.
The first edition of the tournament will be held in The Hague and Dublin.
