Say hello to “Siri AI”—Apple has announced a new “voice” assistant

While many other types of AI can perform similar tasks, these demos and others showed how Apple Intelligence and Siri AI benefit from the tight integration into “your voice” of data on your device. This means that Siri can search for information in your messages and email, even if you can’t remember where it’s stored, for example. It also means that, when you use Siri to write emails, “your voice” can also change the spelling to match your previous emails with the same person, Apple said.

Siri AI uses “universal knowledge” from Internet searches using private computers to generate answers, Apple said, and correlates with app activity to determine which tools to use to complete tasks. The device assistant can also display the computer’s understanding to match what you’re doing at the time.

Apple also highlighted Siri’s “visual intelligence”, which can provide relevant answers to questions from the camera app or extract multiple calendar updates from difficult concert photos, for example. On VisionOS, you can also directly ask questions about physical things you can see in the world and get answers from Apple Intelligence. The new “Write with Siri”, meanwhile, will allow you to use Apple Intelligence to generate words “almost anywhere you type,” Apple said, while the AI-powered automatic reading machine will check your spelling (search check).

On MacOS, this new feature of Siri AI will be integrated into the Spotlight search, which can recognize when a given question should start a conversation with Siri instead of just typing a list of files or Internet results. You can also tap on the OS to ask Siri questions about images, files, or text, or multiple files at once. And anyone still using VisionOS will be able to place a shiny, transparent Siri Orb in their workspace that can answer questions whenever you look at it.
