England’s Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson investigated the case of the night club

The England and Wales Cricket Board is investigating an incident at a nightclub involving captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson following the first Test against New Zealand.

The ECB statement said the pair were involved in a “breach of team protocols” on Monday morning, after England’s win on Sunday.

It is the latest controversy to hit the England team after the Ashes tour, which was marred by allegations of a drinking culture.

As a result, England imposed a midnight curfew on all players and staff.

“The ECB is currently investigating a breach of group protocol following the completion of the first men’s test against New Zealand,” the statement said.

“Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were in a nightclub on Monday morning when an incident occurred.

“We are currently looking for more information, and the announcement for the second test team will be made in due course.

“The Controller of Cricket has been informed and we will provide further updates when possible.”
