During the earthquake, the school structure collapsed

Students can be heard screaming at a school in Digos as a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao island in the southern Philippines.

The strong quake caused the exterior structure to collapse, but the school confirmed in a Facebook statement that no one was injured, thanking staff and students for “keeping calm and orderly throughout the situation”.

Elsewhere in the Philippines, at least 32 people were reported dead. The number of victims still needs to be confirmed by the National Disaster Agency, which is compiling and verifying reports from various local sources.

After the first earthquake, more than 130 aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 1.3 to 6.7 were recorded.
