After the Saudi Arabian national team… Yaya Toure is getting closer to the Champions League

A move that separates the Ivorian legend from the Champions League

Ivorian Yaya Toure, a former Barcelona and Manchester City star, is approaching his first experience as a manager after taking over as head coach of Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava.

European reports stated that a deal between the two sides has been settled, pending an official announcement in the coming days, for Toure to lead the team in the preliminary stages of next season’s Champions League.

Toure (age 43) retired from football in 2020 before gradually starting a coaching career as an assistant at Olympic Club Donetsk in Ukraine and Ahmed Grozny in Russia, then as Tottenham youth team coach and assistant at Belgian Standard Liège, before his last stop was at the technical staff of the Saudi Arabian national team.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo noted that Toure’s appointment to Slovan Bratislava comes after a disappointing European season for the side, who were knocked out of the Champions League last season against Kairat Almaty in the preliminary rounds and also finished 36th in the league stage.

Toure’s first aim will be to maintain Slovan’s domestic dominance, where he won the Slovak league for seven years in a row, before attempting to return the team to the European premiership.
