French defender Ibrahima Konate settled his future by signing for Real Madrid on a free transfer, extending his contract until the summer of 2030, becoming the first signing of Florentino Perez’s new era since being re-elected as Real Madrid president.
The French TV channel “RMC Sport” confirmed that the 27-year-old player officially signed the deal with the Spanish club, which was the pre-election promise of Peres, who won the presidential elections yesterday, Sunday.
The end of an era for Liverpool
Konate will leave Liverpool when his contract expires on June 30 on a free transfer, a painful blow for the Reds who are losing one of their most popular defenders for free.
The France international, who has 28 caps, has enjoyed a successful career at Liverpool since joining the club, where he has been one of the mainstays of the defence.
Ready for the World Cup
Konate is currently in the French city of Lille, in the camp of the French national team, preparing for the friendly match against Northern Ireland on Monday.
The Roosters will then travel to the USA for the 2026 World Cup, where Konate is expected to play a key role in France’s bid to regain the title.
Konate’s inclusion is a strong reinforcement for Real Madrid’s defensive line as part of Perez’s plan to rebuild the team and end a title drought that has stretched to two consecutive seasons.
