World number one Nellie Korda won her first US Women’s Open title, beating England’s Charlie Hull by one shot.
American Korda made a crucial birdie at the 17th hole to finish at eight under at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
It was the fourth major win of the 27-year-old’s career and his second straight win of the season, having reclaimed the Chevron Championship title in April.
Hull, trailing by seven strokes at the halfway mark, followed up a third-round 65 with a four-under-par 67 in the fourth round to tie the lowest 36-hole total in US Women’s Open history, but finished seven under.
He has now finished runner-up in a major five times in his career: four times since the start of 2023 and twice in his last three tournaments.
Hull is tied with Mexico’s Gabby Lopez in second, South Korea’s In-Gi Chun further back and Se-Young Kim – level with Korda at the top of the leaderboard after three rounds – five under.
“It’s just frustrating,” Hull said. “Another second place. It’s quite annoying, but I played well the last day.
“Definitely missed a few putts on the back nine, but it was pretty windy and I hit the ball great, so fair play to Nellie Korda for back-to-back wins.”
Korda sealed the victory with a 34-inch par putt on the 18th hole, the ball rolling around the back lip before landing.
“It’s just a dream to win here,” Korda said. “The golf course has a lot of history and it’s a dream come true to have my name alongside so many great champions.”
