Conor Roberts: Wales and Burnley defender to appreciate career more after ‘draining’ year

Roberts was called off the bench by head coach Craig Bellamy in the 60th minute. Wales lost to Romania.

The 64-cap international’s substitute David Brooks equalized just three minutes after entering the field to cancel out Florin Koeman’s opener at the Stadionu Stua.

But Adrian Ross scored an 80th-minute winner for the men in yellow in their first victory since football legend Gheorhe Hagi was appointed as boss in April.

It means Wales have gone four matches without a win in 2026 while extending their winless run in away friendlies to 17 matches – a streak stretching back to November 2008.

Despite the disappointing result, Roberts is happy to be back on the field representing his national team once again.

“For me personally, it’s great to be back,” said the Burnley defender.

“Some people are happy that I’m back, some people are not so happy, but I’m back and hopefully I can hold on for the summer and go again next season for club and country.”
