The first was against Switzerland.
Colombia managed to comfortably beat Jordan (2-0) in a friendly match that brought them together early Monday at the American Stadium in San Diego as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup finals, which begin next Thursday.
Brazilian Palmeiras star John Arias was the undisputed hero of the match, scoring both goals in the 41st and 55th minutes to lead his country to a valuable, confidence-boosting win just days before the World Cup kicks off.
Rodriguez executes and Jordan’s keeper shines
In the 41st minute of the first half, Arias opened the scoring after a great pass from Colombia captain James Rodriguez, who showed a high technical level throughout the first half.
Despite Colombia’s lead, the first half saw remarkable brilliance from Jordanian goalkeeper Yazid Abu Leila, who was able to keep out a dangerous attempt by Bayern Munich’s German star Luis Diaz with a superb save to keep the margin just one goal.
Al-Qaim saves Colombia
The Jordanian national team almost equalized in the first half, if it was not for the intervention of the goalkeeper, who responded to the shot of the Jordanian national team’s left back Muhannad Abuta, which would have changed the course of the match.
Jordan substitutions in the second half
At the beginning of the second half, the coach of Morocco, the coach of the Jordanian team, Jamal Al-Salami, made four substitutions at once, trying to change the course of the confrontation.
Al-Salami brought on Mohamed Abou Zrek ‘Sharara’, Mohamed Abou Hashish, Ibrahim Saada and Mahmoud Al-Mardi in a tactical move aimed at bolstering the attacking performance and putting pressure on Colombia’s defence.
Arias resolves the confrontation
But the Jordanians’ substitutions didn’t pay off as John Arias managed to score his second personal goal and his country’s second in the 55th minute.
The goal was scored after an organized attack by the Colombian national team, which showed the technical and physical superiority of the South American players over the Asians.
Expulsion adds to Jordanian suffering
Things went from bad to worse for the Jordanian team in the last minute of the match as Amer Jamous was sent off in the 90th minute, continuing with Al-Nashama?
Another loss for Jordan
This is the second consecutive defeat for the Jordanian national team in the preparatory friendly matches, after losing the first match with a heavy score of 1-4 to Switzerland.
Back-to-back negative results raise questions about Al-Nashama’s readiness to compete in international tournaments, especially as the tournament approaches.
