Al-Ittihad are planning to sign Benzema’s rival

Saudi club Al-Ittihad are planning to hire a new coach to replace Portugal’s Sergio Conceicao in a bid to rebuild the team after a season in which the “Dean” left without a trophy.

The federation announced the sacking of Conceição a few days ago and is now planning to sign a new technical director to rectify the situation.

According to Majid Hood, a journalist close to Al-Ittihad, the club’s management is considering the possibility of signing a contract with the former coach of the team, Portuguese Nunu Santo, from the new season.

The federation is looking for a technical director to lead the sporting project next season following recent changes to the technical staff, keen to sign a name that can bring the team back to the domestic and continental platforms.

According to reports in the past few hours, Nuno Santo’s name has suddenly returned to the discussion table in the club’s corridors, benefiting from his previous successful experience at Al-Ittihad, where he led Roche to the Pro League title and left a clear mark on the team.

The Portuguese coach is welcomed by a large section of Al-Ittihad fans who still remember the period that saw the return of the dean’s chair under his leadership, reflected in the huge backlash following the news of his shortlisting.

Santo left Al-Ittihad training at the start of the 2023-2024 season following a clash with Frenchman Karim Benzema, a former Al-Amid player.
