Increasing security concerns
The American city of Kansas City, Missouri witnessed a shooting incident that injured 9 people near the venue for England’s soccer team to host and train for the 2026 World Cup.
Kansas City Police Chief Jake Pecchina confirmed in a statement to British newspaper The Athletic that officers received a report of gunshots around 4 a.m. Saturday on Trost Street, a short drive from the training center and hotel where the three Lions are staying during the tournament.
9 injured, no arrests
Pekina explained that upon arriving at the scene of the accident, the police found a large crowd of people who quickly dispersed, noting that 3 adult women were injured, who were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to the preliminary investigation, it was found that the total number of injured reached 9 adults, all of whom were transferred to different local hospitals of the city.
The police chief noted that no suspects have yet been arrested in the incident, stressing that security forces are continuing intensive patrolling around the scene of the accident to ensure safety and security.
The FA is silent
For its part, an official representative of the FA refused to comment on the incident or its possible impact on the team’s plans, while the players and technical staff are currently in Palm Beach, Florida, where they continue to prepare for the World Cup away from the scene of the accident.
