Ahead of the start, the new American restrictions confuse the Iranian team

Arrangements for the 2026 World Cup have cast a shadow over Iran’s national team preparations, with growing administrative hurdles related to entry procedures from World Cup host countries to the United States.

Media reports on Saturday revealed, citing Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abu al-Fadl Basandidi, that Iran’s national team players would not be allowed to stay in the United States except for a limited time, limited to World Cup match days.

Bassindida explained, according to a report by Mexican media outlet Asharq Al-Awsat, that the players will only be able to enter the US on the morning of the game, provided they leave the same day after fulfilling their commitments.

Speaking to reporters in Tijuana, Iran’s ambassador added that 15 officials of the Iranian Football Federation have not yet received entry visas to the United States to participate in the World Cup starting next Thursday.

Despite this, the Iranian side is still betting on settling the matter before the opening game against New Zealand on June 15.

According to Iranian media, the president of the Iran Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, along with the national team’s director of logistical services, are among the officials who have not yet received the necessary visas.

In response, all the members of the delegation of the Iranian national team were able to get an entry visa in Mexico, noting that all the meetings of the group that includes Iran will be held in America.

The war between Iran and the United States erupted last February, raising questions and doubts about the Iranian team’s ability to enter the United States and participate in the tournament unhindered.
