Meand the Shacklewell Arms in east London, the crowd of hipster and indie music fans was replaced by a crowd in leopard print, denim and cowboy hats to pay tribute to the night’s headliner: Shania Twain.

There was collective disbelief among the 200 lucky ticket holders that they were about to see a top-selling female artist perform in the back room. Best friends Emma, 26, and Ava, 28, thought it was “horrible” to see Twain in her former home.
The Shacklewell Arms was transformed into an old-school saloon to honor Twain, complete with a wall of cowboy hats and bandanas. Fans traveled from the UK to attend the game just once. Nathan, 35 years old, from Scotland, who had an old trade, was here to see him for the eighth time. “Why are they doing this?”
A few minutes later, Twain took the stage and announced: “Shacklewell Arms! Here we go. Ready?” She then debuted her new single, Dirty Rosie.
After the song ended, Twain, dressed in a black dress and matching shoes, welcomed the audience “for (her) first time in a small bar since (she) was a child”. Twain said: “When I was little, I started doing things like this. “They would say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the stage, Little Miss Twain.’ And I come there and sing the songs of my country. “
For an hour, Twain was back to being a singer in a sweaty, cramped room. Each song is written with a quick story. No One Needs to Know was written in a room at the golf course where he worked. Come On Over was “the weakest album”, but represented the “inclusive, welcoming” feeling he was aiming for. He beat me with Pat Benatar and Your Best Shot inspired Twain to write something that doesn’t really interest me.
The positive attitude led Twain to ask about his favorite songs in the UK. The crowd responded with When, a top 20 hit from Come On Over. So Twain treated the fans well enough to name the song, followed by You Win My Love, Don’t Be Foolish, and From This Time On.
Twain’s intimate performance is part of the release of her seventh album, Little Miss Twain, which comes out on July 24. As Twain told the small crowd: “This album describes every aspect of my life before I had a record contract.
The show also helped Twain as he prepared to play Wembley Stadium for the first time in his career, supporting Harry Styles’s 12-night residency.
Thirty years into his artistic career, Twain’s star shows no signs of waning. His longevity as a cultural icon is partly due to his conscious efforts to constantly increase his followers.
“He’s an exerciser,” said Elamin Abdelmahmoud, a Canadian cultural writer and publisher.
