“Real” is facing the moment of truth
Today, Sunday, the young businessman Enrique Riquelme cast his vote in the election of his candidacy for the presidency of Real Madrid, against the historic president of the club, Florentino Perez.
A video posted by Spanish network El Cherenguito shows Riquelme casting his vote amid warm applause from his supporters.
37-year-old Riquelme is called “Sun King” in financial circles. He is the chairman and 75% owner of the renewable energy company Cox Energy, which he founded in Mexico a decade ago, and which currently has 15,000 employees and is active in 30 countries.

Riquelme hinted at his intention to run for president of Real Madrid in 2021 when he said in an interview with the newspaper “El Confidencial”.
This is the first real selection race for Real Madrid in two decades, since the era when Florentino Perez took the reigns at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Peres won unopposed in the 2009, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025 elections. His current term was supposed to end in 2029, but after a bad season for the football team, he decided to hold a snap election.
The historical president of “Real Madrid” is expected to have a great competition with the young businessman Enrique Riquelme, who is 37 years old.
Perez announced that he would appoint Jose Mourinho as the Merengues coach if he wins the election, in addition to signing an undisclosed star for no less than €150m, while Riquelme has promised to bring in two Manchester City stars, Erling Holland and Rodry, in addition to signing technical director Jurgen Klopp.
