Chevon Clarke recovered from two knockdowns to deliver a sensational seventh-round stoppage of Jack Massey in a dramatic cruiserweight clash in Bournemouth.
The co-main event of Zuffa Boxing’s show at the Bournemouth International Center pitted former British champion Clarke against former world title challenger Massey, a contest that lived up to its pre-fight billing.
Massey stunned Clark with a powerful combination late in the second round and appeared to take control of the contest after dropping his opponent twice in an eventful fourth round.
Massey’s powerful right hand took Clarke the full eight-count and before being sent to the canvas again just over a minute later, the Gravesend fighter did well to see out the rest of the round.
He then came back in the fifth but was behind on three judges’ scorecards, despite hitting Massey and being on edge in the sixth round, then killing his opponent with a huge right hand in the seventh.
Massey remained undeterred after surviving the count, with a further flurry of punches from Clarke seeing the referee stop the fight – with just over 80 seconds left in the round – to complete a remarkable comeback win.
“I came from nothing — and when you come from nothing you have something to fight for,” Clark said. Sky Sports. “Credit to Jack. He’s a good fighter.
“He’s better than most cruiserweights and I beat him. I portrayed it. I exposed it. Exposure works and belief works.
“I’m a big Arsenal fan and I missed the whole parade because I was in camp – so today is my parade.”
home favorite Lee Cutler Aaron saw his middleweight contest against Sutton cut short when a powerful right hand left his opponent with a dislocated shoulder, resulting in a third-round TKO win.
All three judges had the competition level after two rounds before the stoppage, with Cutler’s unusual win – with 31 seconds left in the round – marking a successful first return to the ring since his loss to Sam Eggington last April.
“After the (Sam) Eggington fight, I believe I pulled off a clinical win again,” Cutler said. Sky Sportss “I thought I was going to walk by this guy (Sutton) and beat him up. Accidents happen and he’s respected for being there. It’s a shame what happened.”
Call for a rematch against Cutler Stephen McKennawhom he defeated in December 2024, after ending his 539-day absence from the ring with a sensational first-round stoppage against Irishman Casey James Streeter.
McKenna (16-1) needed just 64 seconds to dispatch Streeter and claim the 15th knockout win of his career, sending the American to the canvas with a huge left hook before seeing the fight stopped by the referee after several heavy shots.
“I’m happy to be back, stronger than ever,” McKenna said Sky Sports. “I always go for the knockout. He (Streeter) tried to fight fire with fire, but it was only going to go one way.”
of Scotland Sam Hickey (5-0) Todd continued his perfect professional record with a brutal knockout against Tompkins, sending the Englishman to the canvas with a powerful right hand just 80 seconds into the second round.
“We’ve got to do a show in Scotland – I’ll sell out the gaff,” Hickey said Sky Sports. “If I keep performing like this and keep fighting people, we could put hundreds of people down. You don’t get paid for overtime. I worked and had a shot. I’m happy.”
Alex McMillan (4-0) – a gym-mate of Billam-Smith and Cutler – opened the night with a statement victory as he knocked out fellow Englishman Leo Fanthome three times during a second-round stoppage.
Leon Hughes (5-0) wasted little time maintaining his undefeated start as a pro, dominating one-sided contests against Mario Vergiev 52 seconds into the third round before the referee stepped in.
of England Harvey Dykes The two-time Olympic medalist suffered the first defeat of his professional career Ivan Dychko (16-1) on the edge of winning by split decision.
