David Sullivan has resigned as joint-chair of West Ham.
The 77-year-old, who has been on the West Ham board for more than 16 years, resigned ahead of the “imminent publication of serious historical allegations”.
Through West Ham and his own statement, Sullivan has denied all allegations.
It is understood none of the allegations relate to West Ham or any of its operations, the club said.
A club statement released on Saturday said: “West Ham United can confirm that joint-chair David Sullivan has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
“Mr Sullivan has also resigned as a director of both WH Holding Limited and West Ham United Football Club, having been made aware of the imminent publication of serious historical allegations.
“It is understood that none of the allegations relate to West Ham United or any of its operations.
“Through his own legal representatives Mr Sullivan has denied any wrongdoing and has decided to resign to avoid disruption to the club while he personally addresses the matter.”
The statement also confirmed that interim CEO Karim Virani will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the club and will report to the rest of the board of directors.
West Ham were relegated from the Premier League last month.
