Abdullah Al-Hamdan, the striker of “Al-Nasr”, the player of the Saudi Arabian national team, expressed his happiness with the coach of “Al-Akhdar” Giorgos Donis of Greece on the first victory, considering that the result of the match in Puerto Rico was very important.
Saudi Arabia defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 in the early hours of Saturdayat the Q2 Stadium in his second friendly match at his United States of America camp in preparation for the 2026 World Cup finals.
Al-Hamdan said in a statement to the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat after the match. “The result was important for us in light of the presence of the new coach. We showed up well in the first game (against Ecuador), but the problem is always the result.”
“That’s why the result was important for us, and our form on the field was good, and we are developing with the coach, and we strive to be the best at the first match of the World Cup.”
Saudi Arabia’s win was the first under Dennis after losing 1-2 to Ecuador in their first game, and they face Senegal in the early hours of next Wednesday in their final friendly before the World Cup.
Regarding the style of play, Al-Hamdan said: “The names appearing in the national team are capable of imposing an attacking style. They have high potential and if they couldn’t do that they wouldn’t be invited and that helps any coach with an attacking mentality.”
The Saudi Arabian forward also commented on the stoppage of the match for one hour and 40 minutes due to thunderstorms near the Q2 stadium, as he felt that the Saudi team came back from the break better than before.
He explained. “These things we cannot control. The question is about the weather, but what happened today confirms that the team must prepare for all conditions, because it can happen at any moment of the game.”
He concluded. “My view is that when the team came back on the field it was better than before the break and that means everyone was present and that is a positive point and we have to continue like this until the first match of the World Cup.”
It is noteworthy that the Saudi Arabian team is in the eighth group of the final stage of the 2026 World Cup, alongside the teams of Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde, where they will begin their journey against the Latin team at dawn on June 16 this year.
