Martin O’Neill will stay on as Celtic manager after two spells in the Premiership and Scottish Cup double last season, BBC Scotland understands.
Twenty years after his five-year spell as Celtic manager, he returned on an interim basis at the end of October following the departure of Brendan Rodgers, having managed eight games.
O’Neill made way for Wilfred Nancy, but the Frenchman left after six defeats and just two wins from eight matches. O’Neill returned as Celtic boss in early January, having been appointed for the remainder of the season.
The league title race took place on the final day of the campaign and Celtic finished top of the table with a 3-1 win over long-time leaders Hearts. He then won his ninth spell as Celtic manager with a 3-1 win over Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden O’Neill two weeks ago.
And the 74-year-old agreed to stay at Parkhead after talks with the club’s main shareholder Dermot Desmond earlier this week.
Celtic have not officially confirmed the appointment.
