A blow to “Real”… Courtois’ expected successor flees to England

Newcastle United have struck early in the transfer market after signing the French goalkeeper, a deal that has deprived Real Madrid of the goal they see as a top priority for their future.

As reported by the French channel Canal+, the English club has signed a contract with the young goalkeeper Eoin Gawn from the Reims stadium for 24 million pounds, extending the contract until June 2030.

The importance of the deal lies not only in strengthening Newcastle’s goalkeeper position, but also in his superiority over direct competition from Real Madrid and Chelsea.

He noted that the Merengues and Blues have tracked Jaune (20) throughout the season, while the young goalkeeper has already visited Chelsea’s premises, while Real Madrid see him as the natural heir to Thibaut Courtois.

Gao had a remarkable 2025-2026 season with Reims in the French second division, where he made 34 appearances, kept 15 clean sheets and conceded just 35 goals, figures that made him one of the most popular talents in his position in Europe.
