The transition from analog back to mechanical isn’t great, either. When you plug in a standard switch and press the “scan” button to reset the board, most of the inputs remain. semi– functional. In my test, where I set the WASD keyboard to be a common letter, and the full press to be (Shift + WASD), pressing any of those keys and the second key after it would cause the next input to be combined with the Shift input, which makes wOrdS and raNdOMly capital letters! The most surprising thing is that the G-Hub software knows where the switch is connected, and informs you that many inputs do not work with normal switches, but it does not change the keys to avoid problems.
The tedium of changing settings, scanning, and changing keys every time you start a game is not worth it. I found myself groaning at the prospect, just using the mechanical switches in the game. Like glasses with interchangeable lenses, the BMW i8, or the McRib, this keyboard creates a hybrid of two things that, across the board, are worse than their parts.
One nice touch is that the removable legs on the bottom of this keyboard double as keycaps and drawers. If you travel with this keyboard, you will always have these tools with you. But it also means, like you don’t do that like using your keyboard at an 8-degree angle, you’ll have awkward adjustments with keycap pullers sitting on your desk. The limited storage capacity isn’t as useful as the curved feet and keycaps/switches that most keyboards today incorporate. It is also not useful if Steelseries silicone case hide the keycap puller.

If you were expecting a keyboard of this type to have a tough internal assembly, then you’re on the money. Disassembly involves removing the bottom feet and the rear stickers, removing a few screws, removing the rear panel, loosening the other twelve screws, and separating the front and middle parts, after which you will be left with four main parts: The upper shell, the main assembly of the PCB and the plate, the middle shell (which contains the LED bar, along with the rear port and the USB button). Although the disassembly is long, I like the assembly. Apart from the sticky feet, everything looks very sturdy and well made inside. The real change would be to replace the plastic sheets with heat-insulating steel fibers.
