“Manchester City” won the most.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has revealed details of the unprecedented record €305m it will hand out to clubs in return for allowing their international players to play at the 2026 World Cup, a 70 per cent increase on 2022 and including qualification compensation for the first time.
Most of the money, €215 million, will be distributed to clubs that allow their players to participate in the tournament, which starts on June 11, with daily payments for each player calculated at a minimum of €4,200, which will increase depending on the team’s progress in the tournament and the player’s participation time.
It is believed that Manchester City, who have the most players invited to the World Cup with 19 players, could receive €10,000 per day per player for a total of €190,000, bringing their expected profit from the entire tournament to around €6 million.
In a historic precedent, FIFA allocated around €80 million in compensation for the qualifiers, which was distributed to each player who played in the 905 qualifying matches, roughly €2,000 per player per match.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented on the move, saying: “This is another benefit of the expansion of the FIFA World Cup, as it allows us to provide greater support to the entire football ecosystem and in particular to clubs that miss out on players struggling to shine at the World Cup.”
For his part, the president of the European Club Association, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, expressed his joy for the agreement, saying: “I am very pleased that for the first time the scope of financial aid will be expanded to include qualifying matches.
The remaining four million euros, after deducting the administrative costs incurred as a result of the implementation of the program, will be allocated to the development of club football, based on the agreement reached between FIFA and the European Football Association (UEFA).
