Golf friends are against 17 million odds on one hole at Royal Liverpool

Seventeen million one. Those are the odds of what happened on the 15th hole at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Longtime friends Rob Davies, 67, and David Lewis, 64, golf partners for more than 30 years, both made a hole-in-one on the same hole and the same round.

Rob recorded his first ace with a swinging wedge on the 107-yard, par-three hole.

David followed a few moments later for his second hole-in-one at the same club, 12 years after his first.

“We knew my shot hit the flag but we couldn’t see the base of the pin because of the topography of the green,” Rob said.

“I thought it really went into the fringes, so I wasn’t that keen at first. David looked very close, but again, we couldn’t see the end.

“When we got up there and didn’t see any balls on the green, one of our playing partners told us to go to the hole together. Seeing both balls in there helped us. We shook hands and tried to put them all in.”
