An over in Glasgow on Scottish soil will sweeten the Bulls’ previous knockout defeat to the Warriors, not least the famous night in Pretoria that sealed the URC title in June 2024.
South Africans will certainly taste the change at Murrayfield. Glasgow commercial teams will move heaven and earth to move as many tickets as possible, but the stadium will be fuller and less intimidating than the atmosphere generated in a packed Scotstown.
The move from a plastic pitch to a more natural surface will certainly be welcomed by a side whose scrum strength is central to their game. The Bulls can only feel that the stadium change could rob Glasgow of some of their lustre.
“I’m not really too bothered about how they look at it,” said Warriors captain Steyn, who scored two tries in a match-best performance against Connacht.
“The challenge is going to be there anyway and it’s a semi-final. We’ve obviously come up against them twice this season and they’ve both been really physical, really tight games and we expect nothing less.”
“We love Scotstown. If you give us the chance to play there we’ll take it every time. We’ve really thrived on growing rugby in Glasgow and getting more fans into a stadium and having an opportunity like that. We’ve really loved the opportunity to be at Hampden over the last few years for the 1872 game.
“Now we’ve got Murrayfield, we’re really excited about it. We’re really hoping to do whatever we can to increase ticket sales and hopefully get Glasgow, Edinburgh, Scottish rugby fans, everybody there.
“Having more big games like this in Scotland, we hope, can only be a good thing for any aspiring young Scottish kid who wants to play rugby, boy or girl. The more games of this scale we can get in the country, the better.”
