The New York Knicks lead the NBA Finals with a win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The Knicks are making a bid to win their first championship since 1973 and Karl-Anthony Towns says the fans are motivated to come back.

“It’s something in town, you feel that energy in town,” said Towns, who posted 18 points and 12 rebounds.

“You have to grind, grind, work hard to make it in the city.

“When we step on that court with Nick Malia, I think we reflect our fans and their lifestyle and what it takes to work in New York City.”

It was a quiet night for Victor Wembanyama. Although he is Spurs’ top scorer, he has scored just six of his 21 shots from the field.

“We’ve been down in series before – we’ve never made it to the finals – but I’m not kicking myself about anything,” Wembenyama said.

“I was bad, it’s not more complicated than that, I’m not worried though.”

The best-of-seven series continues in San Antonio before the teams head to Madison Square Garden on Monday.
