Chelsea: Former record goalscorer Bobby Tambling dies aged 84


ChelseaIts former record goalscorer Bobby Tambling has died aged 84.

Tambling scored 202 goals in 370 games between 1959 and 1970, a record surpassed by Frank Lampard in May 2013.

Tambling scored and assisted on his debut as a 17-year-old Chelsea In 1965 he scored in the final against Leicester to win the League Cup.

He also scored in the 1967 FA Cup Final loss to the Blues Tottenham and won three caps for England before joining Crystal Palace In 1970.

Tambling finished his career in the Republic of Ireland and settled in Cork, where he managed local sides Cork Celtic, Cork City and Crosshaven.

In recent years, he had been living with dementia.

A statement from Crosshaven’s X account described the tumbling as “a fact”. Chelsea Legends and more wonderful people.”

“His warmth, his wisdom, his humor and his love will be with us forever,” it added.

“He loved going back to (Stamford) Bridge, where he was worshipped. Seeing his ‘Tumbling 202’ banner proudly displayed and having a suit in his honor always filled him with quiet pride.”
