Scottie Scheffler hopes to match Tiger Woods to a third straight Memorial Tournament title this week as the world number one looks to join the ranks of golfing greats on the PGA Tour to three-peat.
Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller and Gene Littler are Hall of Famers who have won the specified tournament three times in a row, having done so at the Woods Memorial – Muirfield Village, O99 on a Nicklaus-designed course from Club Golf to O99 – Memorial in 2001.
Steve Stricker is the most recent to claim back-to-back titles on Tour in 2011 when he claimed his third John Deere Classic victory.

“The last two years don’t mean much when you stand on the first tee,” Scheffler said before the tournament began Thursday, live on Sky Sports Golf From 5 p.m.

Scotty Scheffler was asked if he wanted input on the Ryder Cup committee and praised the selection of Jim Furyk as Team USA captain for next year’s event.
“But it’s a golf course where I’ve had some success and it will be a great place to be able to achieve something like winning the same tournament three years in a row, especially at Jack’s place.”
Scheffler added on the 18-time major winner’s record: “I think any time you can play a tournament that has his name on it is really special.
“He’s a guy that I’ve seen, not just a great golfer, but he’s been a great family man. And you see it through his tournaments, you see his sons here, you see his wife here, you see his grandchildren everywhere.
“It’s a special place for us to be able to come and compete, not just from the challenge of the golf course, but to be able to play in front of the fans and carry on the legacy of Mr. Nicklaus. It’s a really great tournament for us.”

Scheffler had seven wins on tour in 2024 – including his second Masters win – and added six more to his name last year, taking his tally in the majors to four with his successes at the PGA Championship and The Open.
So far, 2026 hasn’t been as fruitful, with just one win to his name at the American Express in January, though he has finished second in three of his last four tournaments, with three more top-five finishes.
“This year felt like I was close. I felt like I wasn’t as sharp as I would have liked to be,” Scheffler said. “When you look at the margins in this game, they’re pretty small. I think statistically I’m probably not that far off from where I’ve been the last few years, it’s just a few shots here or there, a couple of those momentum shots where it can swing you in the tournament.”
