Real Madrid candidate promises to pay members’ fees in full if City pair not included
Real Madrid’s presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has made exciting campaign promises days ahead of next Sunday’s election, announcing his intention to sign Norwegian Erling Haaland and Spain’s Manchester City pair Rodri if he wins the election, stressing that he is prepared to shoulder the full cost of the club’s members’ subscriptions.
During his appearance on Spanish program El Hormigero, Riquelme revealed one of the most prominent focal points of his selection project when he showed off a shirt bearing Holland’s name, stressing that the Manchester City striker represents the most high-profile deal he wants to make if he wins the Royals presidency, apart from Rodry.
The Spanish businessman explained that he has made an official pledge to the notary, stating that he will personally bear 100% of the cost of the subscriptions of about 100,000 members of Real Madrid if he cannot sign the players he promised.
Riquelme said Hollande has a release clause, adding that the player wants to wear a Real Madrid shirt, giving him confidence that a deal can be completed.
The presidential candidate also reviewed the most important features of his campaign plan, which include retaining the club’s owners and rejecting any privatization trend, establishing a “Member City” project in Valdebebas and reducing annual membership fees by 50% until the team returns as Champions League winners.
Riquelme described the upcoming elections as a “referendum on the future of the club”, referring to the controversy surrounding the possibility of selling part of Real Madrid’s property.
“I respect Florentino Perez’s legacy, but I don’t agree with him on everything. For me, selling the club is a red line that cannot be crossed. “Real Madrid must remain the property of its members.”
During the interview, Riquelme referred to the traditional rival “Barcelona” and again spoke about Negrea’s arbitration case, considering that the Catalan club has won certain circumstances in the past years.
He also criticized what he described as a smear campaign against him during the election campaign, while stressing his respect for Florentino Perez regardless of the outcome of the election.
The candidate for the president of “Real Madrid” has confirmed that his project does not correspond to the idea of signing a contract with the Portuguese Jose Mourinho. Peres announced earlier today that he will be the coach of the Royal team if he wins the election.
He explained that appointing Raul Gonzalez and Fernando Hierro to administrative positions will be an essential part of his sporting project, noting that he will announce the name of the coach he wants to sign in the coming days.
He also emphasized his desire to include Rodri at Real Madrid, describing him as a Ballon d’Or player who could strengthen one of the most needy positions within the team.
Riquelme stressed that he would not interfere in the day-to-day technical aspects if he became the club president, explaining that the president’s role should be limited to placing the right people in the right positions and overseeing the administrative and financial aspects.
He said: “The president should not choose the team or interfere with the coach’s decisions, his mission is to provide a suitable environment for work and allow professionals to fulfill their duties.”
He also denied accusations that he seeks to benefit from Real Madrid to serve his commercial interests, stressing that he already has a successful economic project and that he is ready to step away from managing his companies and devote himself fully to the club if he wins the presidency.
At the end of the speech, he expressed his reservations about the idea of giving the Santiago Bernabeu stadium a commercial name, stressing that such a decision should be submitted to the club members for a vote, and not taken separately by the administration.
