Snowboarding Nagano made its Winter Olympic debut in 1998 with halfpipe and giant slalom.
Riders raced against the clock before identical, side-by-side courses were introduced in Salt Lake City four years later.
Three-time Winter Olympian Alex Pair said: “The PGS is the only format where everything is equal – same course, same conditions, same start, same opportunity. That fairness is rare in sport.
“If you take it out of the Olympic program, you take away the purest expressions of our competition.”
Sports bidding to replace them on the program for the Games scheduled for 1-17 February 2030 include free riding and ice climbing.
Freeriding allows skiers and snowboarders to choose their own off-piste course from top to bottom and perform tricks as they descend.
They are judged on elements of their pedigree including course difficulty, jumping and performance.
In ice climbing, competitors climb a frozen waterfall or glacier with speed versions favored for inclusion.
There had been speculation that cyclo-cross would also be targeted for inclusion but last month IOC president Kirsty Coventry said that “no summer sport and no seasonal crossover event” would be part of the programme.
