2026 World Cup: How many jerseys may not be worn in a match?

As many as 18 of the national team kits released for this year’s World Cup could be used by their home countries, following FIFA’s decision on which kits will be included in the group stage.

A total of 108 strips have been released by the 48 teams in the US this summer, not including the ones worn by the goaltenders.

But only 87 of them have to participate in the tournament at least once.

Following the traditional ‘home’ and ‘away’ shirt concepts, each country has at least two main items.

In addition, 12 countries released a third shirt with a different color than the first two shirts.

FIFA has announced which of these jerseys will be worn in the 72 group games, and has not been selected for one game yet.

Of course, there is a possibility that after the teams have passed, they will wear the remaining jerseys and continue in the tournament.

Most of the shirts that haven’t been selected for games yet are away or third shirts. However, Ghana and Uzbekistan will not wear their home jerseys for any of their group matches.

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Curacao, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Ivory Coast, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Senegal and South Africa will not wear their away shirts for the three matches.

Ecuador, Haiti, Iraq and Jordan will travel without their third jerseys for the scheduled matches.

Some countries wear all three jerseys at team level. Canada, Cape Verde, Mexico and Panama wear different uniforms in all their matches.

England and Scotland have each released two shirts and will wear both in their group games. However, Scotland will wear a different goalkeeper kit for all three group games against Haiti, Morocco and Brazil.
