PlayStation is returning to its former glory

PlayStation used its latest State of Play presentation to make it clear where it’s focusing. After stumbling into more expensive games, it’s refocusing on high-quality, story-driven, single-player games. That statement was made clear by the way the one-hour show began and ended.

The show started with a big focus on the game from Marvel’s Wolverinethe new super title from Insomniac Games. Over the course of seven bloody minutes, Logan cuts and dives into a group of baddies as he tries to rescue some of the hostages, briefly connecting with Jean Gray to help him take them down. Insomniac is well known for its single player games, such as Ratchet & Clank and recent Spider-Man sports, and Wolverine it seems that it is almost time to save the event when it starts in September.

The show ended with a big show: God of War Laufeynext row, single player entry into God of War from Santa Monica Studio. Laufey stars Faye, Kratos’ wife, and based on the massive 23-minute trailer shown at the show, it seems to have all the latest information. God of War gameplay: active combat, a magical world to explore, and fun, friendly companions. In this case, it is the gelatinous cube named by Jack Quaid and the mental ribs that are attached to Faye’s sword.

Basically to play that game is more expensive ideas than ever. But by stepping back from live gaming, Sony has a clear strategy for convincing people to do just that: create memorable, expansive single-player games that you can’t play anywhere else.
